High-Quality Greenhouse Fabric vs Greenhouse Film

Investing in a proper greenhouse cover offers an immediate return on your investment. It is the most cost-effective upgrade you can make for your cultivation enterprise.

Though films often have more light transmission than fabrics, this is not necessarily more beneficial to the health of your plant.

You may have noticed, during the summer months, after your plants have been exposed to mid-day sun, they begin to look like they’re wilting. Some people mistake this drooping leaf appearance for the need for more water. However, just as people perspire, plants transpire. This transpiration occurs through evaporation, via the leaves of your plant. The excess weight from this water evaporation is, in fact, what is making the plant appear to be wilting. When the temperature cools down, you may notice that the leaves begin to perk back up. When a plant is transpiring, it is no longer photosynthesizing at optimal rates.

Using high-quality greenhouse fabrics removes some of that light transmission, up to 15%, allowing plants to retain the ability to photosynthesis throughout the hottest parts of the day.

Light diffused greenhouse fabric covers separate light particles as they pass through the fabric membrane. This allows the light to ‘bounce’ around within your structure, therefore reducing shading, allowing light to penetrate deeper into the canopy, and causes a ‘softening’ of the light onto the plant and flower which in turn creates more of a ‘frosty’ appearance on your finished product, similar to the results of indoor gardening

Greenhouse films take those same light particles and condense them, therefore magnifying the light onto the plants, creating hot spots that lead to decreased plant health and creating an environment that is inviting for molds, mildews, pests, and diseases.

The life-span of greenhouse films are typically not long. The intensity of the Sun and UV degradation break the plastic down quickly creating a loss of production as the quality degrades and it needs to be replaced. It also creates unnecessary pressure on our landfills.

High-quality, polyweave greenhouse fabrics tend to last for many years and are designed for hail storms and can withstand many environmental factors. Typically greenhouse fabrics are able to be easily repaired if a hole and/or tear is found.

We cannot impress more on how important it is to have a high-quality greenhouse cover.

Longer lasting. Improved environmental factors. Higher quality flowers.
